The Mexican Gray Wolf
90Canis lupus baileyi - The Mexican Gray Wolf
The Mexican Gray Wolf is an endangered species of wolf that used to be native to Arizona, New Mexico, Mexico, and Texas. It is always in danger of capitalist ranchers who presume that their income from beef consumption is more important than is the lives of creatures that inhabited the lands they "own" far before European savages were discovered here in the New World by the Native Americans.
Prideful and greedy, the capitalist homo sapien, a lesser breed of human, sought to exterminate the wolves so as to ensure the revenues and abuses of the planet - wolves and all else be damned. By the 1970's the Mexican Gray Wolves had almost been completely eradicated from the United States and Mexico, and quite naturally, the degeneration of the Earth due to capitalism accelerated then for many years.

Is The Mexican Gray Wolf A Threat To Livestock?
Mexican Gray Wolves do not naturally hunt, kill, and feed on livestock. Mexican Gray Wolves only began feeding on livestock when deer, rabbits, and other small rodents were hunted or driven out of their natural habitat. Mexican Gray Wolves have to eat, and unlike humans - Mexican Gray Wolves were designed and built to eat meat almost exclusively.
Materialistic and pleasure pursuing mankind, however, prefers to eat meat to his own detriment - especially considering the levels of consumption that is common for the average European descended American Savage.
By 1973 the Mexican Gray Wolves were declared an endangered species - but the Mexican Gray Wolf is actually a sub species of the Gray Wolf, and not it's own distinct species, as is the Red Wolf

Mexican Gray Wolves - The Smallest Sub Species Of Gray Wolves
The Mexican Gray Wolf is the smallest of the sub species of Canus Lupus, the Gray Wolves. An Adult Mexican Gray Wolf typically measures about five and one half feet in length from the end of it's extended tail to the tip of the wolf's nose; and they usually weigh anywhere between sixty to ninety pounds - and are roughly equivalent in size to a adult male German Shepherd dog.
The colors in the coat of the Mexican Gray Wolves are entirely distinctive and unique to the sub species Canis lupus baileyi Their coats are typically a mix of white, black, gray, and "rust" colors.
Among the very favorite prey of this Apex Predator are the white tailed deer, the mule deer, various species of rabbits and ground squirrels.

The Behavior Of Mexican Gray Wolves
Mexican Gray Wolves live in packs and every member must see to it that the other members are cared for. You could say that Mexican Gray Wolves are a bunch of communal living hippie dogs if you wished - but leave the free love thing out. Typically, there is an Alpha Male and an Alpha Female - and typically only those two mate and reproduce, and the effect of this is that because only the strongest reproduce, the pack is continually stocked with the strongest possible genetics. Wolves generally mate between around the middle of February until the middle of March.
Gestation is around two months, and so sometime around April or May, two to eight wolf pups will be born, and every member of the pack will care for them. It takes a whole village.

Save The Mexican Gray Wolves
The Mexican Gray Wolf is still a very endangered sub species of The Gray Wolves despite reintroduction and conservation efforts. Pig like capitalist ranchers are still killing them, and over producing meat in hopes of forever getting richer like their capitalist heroes. It is up to each and every one of us to take a moment and honor the lives of the creatures that we share this world with. Why is it that we deem our lives more worthy than theirs when all we do is use up, destroy, murder, and seek infinite and increasing amounts of pleasure?

That was everything that I like in a hub Wesman.
Your passion for the subject shines through every word. It's a pity that we can't give guns to the wolves to shoot a few ranchers. They would be doing us all a favour then.
Thank you.
I am sure wesman and i can proudly appoint you to federal agency president to find solutions for the endangered species. As usual your passion in writing the subjects with care exmplified.
voted upa nd useful
Wesman, damn I'll sign reluctantly mind you. I am stone cold against any more laws on the books. On the other hand I'm stone cold against shooting animals rather than trap and relocating them to national parks to live in peace and damn the visitors. They need to learn that there are dangers in the wilds. Don't like it? Camp at the city park. I refuse to let park rangers know the hide out of a big cat. They want to shoot him for the safety of visitors, I feed him.
Great hub, dust
Wesman, a zip lock full of raw liberal and the cat will know how to open it, just drop a little bit of Krugman and keep the cats away, Ha!

Beautiful animals who share our earth. We talk about being good to the earth; let's be good to the animals who inhabit it! I love the mentality of the pack, especially the way the entire group rears the pups. Loved it and voted up, etc.
I remember studying in university about how sheep herders got wolves to not eat their sheep without killing the wolves. They killed some of the sheep and injected the dead animals with a substance that make the wolves ill. Then they wait for the wolves to come get the sheep. The wolves vomit and remember that sheep make them sick. Then they leave the sheep alone. No wolves needed to be shot.
They exterminated the wolves in the Limousin, France, around 1926 (or 56 depending where you read) and now, of course, they have the problem of controlling the deer population. There's a wolf sanctuary here in Limousin and I must admit, they do look and sound a bit scary! Interesting article.
The method is used in humans to keep chemo patients from avoiding food completely. They are giving a specific flavour of ice cream. when the chemo makes them feel sick, they associate the sickness with that ice cream only and continue to eat other food. That's waht gave the farmers the idea.
Wes - this is awesome!! What a beautiful animal indeed! Mind you I'm biased anyway - the wolf - of any kind - is one of my favourite animals, so anything I can do, I will do to help protect them from the greed and viciousness of some of our species!
The UK many centuries ago (medieval times and onwards), had many animals such as the wolf, bear and so on but were hunted to extinction because of fun! In other words they were hunted not because of their meat, nor because people were hungry, but because it was deemed fun and fashonable to kill wild animals! (Prior to this the Celtic tribes had lived in harmony with the wildlife for thousands of years and only took what they needed to survive). So anything I can do to ensure that this doesn't happen elsewhere I will do, including signing any petitions.
I agree 100% with 50 Caliber about re-location and the fact that visitors have to take their chances in any wildlife areas! I mean where do these people think they are?
I loved this hub and the photos are stunning! Voted up + awesome!
I don't know what the difference is between the Mexican Gray Wolf and the Timber Wolf but our Timber Wolves are coming back in this area. My husband works at potato farm and just last week someone saw two black and one gray wolf standing by the green houses.
Good hub.
Hi Wes,
There are certainly no wild wolves in the UK. However there are many wildlife sanctuaries - some open to the public - where you can see wolves. They are actually quite spacious and the wolves can live life as near to 'natural' as possible. One of the best pro wolf groups is Wolf Watch UK. Most of the wolves are Gray wolves - some re-located from North America - and other species are from Europe. There has been talk of releasing wolves back into the wild in Scotland, but this has met a few objections - from the usual quarters. Having said that, at least at this moment in time, the wolves are far safer within the boundaries of the wildlife parks. There is still far too much ignorance and scare mongering among the powers that be, that has put the public on their guard. Althoug there is one member of the Scottish Aristocracy who owns a few castles and loads of land who says that he will, when the time is right for the wolves, release them onto his land - without boundaries. But the conservation groups have asked him to hold back with this.
Sure, the UK had quite a few species native to her. One Roman historian also claimed that because the UK was an island, cut off from the European mainland, the wild animals - especially the wolf, bear and wild boar - had grown to very large sizes. Whether or not this is true I have no idea.LOL!!
Yes the Celts were wise folks indeed and I have a lot of respect for them. It's a pity that a lot of their way of life was lost due to the passing of time, although they could be a blood thirsty lot when there was fighting to be done!
Anyway, I think your wonderful hub will go a long way to helping these beautiful animals - long live the wolf!! And again many thanks for sharing!
Hi Wes,
I look forward to reading more of your articles - they are always fascinating!!!
I don't think it's 'improper' at all to write about the UK. If you have an idea for a hub, go for it!! I often use research from other countries - including the USA and Canada - especially for subjects like the paranormal, nature and so on.
As I said, I look forward to reading more of your hubs soon!
Wes, I adore wolves of any kind and the thought of their death for the sake of money makes me cringe. I really enjoyed reading about such a wonderful beast! You always offer the best information and a detailed look at topics. Thanks for sharing the Gray Wolf's struggle with us today.
Cheers~

Wesman, your getting like me and we can't have that! I'm the slow guy! and can't have competition with that! I'll have to send you all of my starts and let you finish them! LOL dust
Wesman, in the past I have gotten 6 way conversations going on Facebook and looked up to see 6 hours gone before I realized I was having that much fun. No complaints it was fun but I now just skip in and out or I'd find every day gone and my ass would ache from sitting LOL, dust
It's clear and headed for 100 plus again today but they say clouds and maybe rain at mid 90s for the weekend I hope we get a good slow drizzle for a day or two. I'm ready to take the old 52 Harley out and noodle my way across the sand to the hard pack then head for asphalt for a day would be fun rain or not at 95 degrees it would be great!
One great hub! You get right to heart of the matter and tell the truth about this wonderful animal. I have always had a warm spot for wolves and have written some about the mythology of werewolves in some of my hubs. I even had a house mate that had two wolves until he had to put them to sleep. I also learned something here, for I thought the Mexican Gray Wolf was indeed extinct!
Okay, but all the time I have travelled though Mexico I have never heard of people speaking of wolves. Jaguars have been spotted even in Texas as recent as 1990. I also did not know that the Mexican Grizzly has been spotted as recent as 1960, for the California Grizzly has been extinct for quite awhile. I am familiar with Navajo, Mayan and Toltec shape-shifters, do you have any knowledge of other tribes that had strong believes in shape-shifting, especially in Mexico?
I loved this hub WTS, will man never learn their lesson. What beautiful animals they do indeed need to be protected.
Hello, Wesman, I am back after doing some research about Jaguar sittings and it appears that the last confirmed sighting was in Arizona in 2005, an yet there are those who believe that the big cat still survives in Texas and her is a link...http://forum.fishgame.com/blog.php?b=158 I will do some more checking and get back to you!
Yes they are wonderful cats...here is another report..http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1169/is_n4_ so there is still a CHANCE that a few remain!
Go Jaguars! That would be great! By the way, have you read any of my "We who Hunt Werewolves hubs yet? I would love some feed back!
hi, thank you for the great piece. I was for the reintroduction of wolves into yellowstone years ago. a guy who lives out west and didn't seem big wolf lover admitted to me they have beneficial effects on the ecosystem and help bring streams back to life by limiting the grazing thereby lowering the water temps. cattle ranchers want it both ways. they want to stiffle all negative press..ala opray winfrey at the same time they want all yellowstone bison shot w.o any scientific connection to brucellosis transmission. give me a break and give the wolves a break. eat more chicken and bypass the steak. I signed one of the petitions. long live el lobo. a big thumbs up!!!
This is a great hub about a wonderful animal! Thank you for publicizing the problems that the Mexican Gray Wolf is experiencing.
I love the photos - especially the second last one, with the little guy. : )
Thanks for writing this and raising awareness on this issue. I appreciate it. All the best!

Hi Wes!
It is sad and disgusting that these beautiful animals are an endangered species.
